Hi Amy,
I was on some quite serious PND medication, taking 2 antidepressants a day and something for anxiety - prescribed by a psychiatrist that I had to see on a regular basis. I was on the medication for just short of a year. My psychiatrist directed me off the medication over a period of 3 months. I've been off the medication now for almost 5 months. It feels great to not be reliant on meds to get through a day with my 14 month old son. I won't lie, there are some days where I could do with those pills, especially in a sick or teething patch, but you learn to manage your feelings and get through it.
If I can say anything, don't try to be a hero. If you come off the meds and discover that you're not coping as well as you'd like to be, get back on them. There is nothing shameful about needing medication. You have not done anything wrong to be in this situation, it just happens to some of us. It's purely chemical or hormonal and not anything that you've done, eaten or drunk. So it's not your fault. Ultimately, if you need the meds a little longer there is nothing wrong with that.
Good luck coming off them. I do hope that you manage to find yourself a happy place soon.
